916 EFI Brute Force drops a cylinder in deep water

This race was at RPMfest in La Porte, In. The bike is a 916EFI Brute force. It is an EXTREMELY fast/powerful bike that was consistently getting beat/outpowered with no real reason why. I thought my buddy driving the bike was out of the throttle. After discussing it, I found out that he was held wide open this whole race, and that everytime the bike gets deep it “feels” like it is about to die to him with no real power. After this discussion, I went back and looked at the footage I had of the bike. It is obvious during the slow-mo portions of this vid that the bike is losing power everytime the spark plug/coil goes under water. Once it comes out/dries out, the bike takes off like a scalded ape and nearly catches the Can-Am he is racing. I added the second video just as a contrast to the first. It is amazing how quickly Matt Pate’s renegade backshifts(amt of time from shallow to deep water to regain full power). He has a great secondary spring/helix setup in that bike, and it shows. Now that we have identified the problem, it is time to fix it, and go out and win a few races.
