Mud racing still slated for county fair

CHARLESTON, W.Va.–The director of the Kanawha County Fair says he is getting numerous phone calls from concerned locals who mistakenly believe there will be no mud racing at this year’s fair.

Last year, the fair hosted officially sanctioned mud races and truck and tractor pulls at the fairgrounds. But this year, those races will take place on Magic Island, as part of the 5th Annual Charleston Boulevard Rod Run and Doo Wop.

However, the fair will still have an open venue for mud racing and tractor pulls this year, Fair Director Ron Gregory said. But rather than a sanctioned race, this year’s mud races will be open to anyone who wants to participate, he said.
